Anita Davis
Aug 1, 2018D. and formerly of Custer, S.D., died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center. A public prayer service was held Saturday, July 28 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, S.D. with Father John Paul Trask officiating.A funeral service was held Monday, July 30 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman, S.D., with pastor Matthew Resner officiating. Interment was at the Freeman City Cemetery.Anita Marie Schamber was born Feb. 6, 1919 in Freeman. She was the daughter of Richard and Caroline (Haar) Schamber. Anita grew up in Freeman and she graduated there from high school in 1937. Following, she earned her teacher’s certificate at Freeman Academy, and with that Anita became a country school teacher. She taught school in Tripp, S.D. for several years, and that is where she met her future husband, Francis Davis. In 1943, they were married in Sioux Falls, S.D. Following their marriage, Francis was called away to service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned home in 1945, and they would never be apart again, until Francis’ death in 2008. For many years they lived in Tripp where Francis worked at the grain elevator. In 1982, they retired and moved to Custer where Francis operated the train in the Flintstone Park until 2000. For the past three years, Anita has lived in Belle Fourche.Anita was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was always happy and thankful for her life and her faith, and her family. She lived with no regrets and she will be greatly missed by her family.Anita is survived by her son, Richard (Charlene) Davis of Belle Fourche; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister Ruth Preheim of Freeman; and son-in-law Richard (Joyce) Wareham of Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three daughters: Joan Davis, Dianne Wareham and Donna Lynch; five sisters: Helen, Amanda, Dorothy, Bertha and Melida; and five brothers: Herman, Gerhard, Eddie, Eric Arthur.
